Printer ink is costly. This notion may not be so bad when you consider how many pages can be printed per cartridge, but most people don't think about that. All people really know is an estimate on long a cartridge will last before they have to go out and buy a new one. In some cases, the ink runs out much faster than should, ultimately costing you a pretty penny.
Make sure of the settings on your printer before you start thinking about getting a new one with cheaper ink.Often times there you will have three different modes of printing available to you: Best, Normal, and Draft. The option you chose will determine the amount of ink that will be used in your print, thereby determining the quality of the print. The best setting uses a good amount of ink to get a clear print. Normal uses less ink while still providing good quality printouts.Draft is the most conservative with ink, and the printouts aren't perfect but they work fine for everyday uses.
If you aren't printing really important papers or photos, you can use the Draft mode setting.By doing so you will conserve more of you ink, extending the life of your ink cartridges as well as your wallet.Make sure that the printer is on the correct setting so that it isn't defaulting back to another setting.
Another popular option is to take your printer ink cartridges to a local refill location.Besides buying new printer ink cartridges each time you need more ink, you could just reuse the original cartridge and just pay a small price to have it refilled. This can save you anywhere from $10 or more each time you need a new stash of ink.One thing to watch out for though, is that some printer won't recognize a cartridge that is refilled and will keep thinking the cartridge is emtpy. This problem can result in a warning popping up every time you try and print or some printers might not even print. It doesn't happen often but it can.
You can also opt to continue to buy new cartridges - but shop around first. There are many online retailers who specialize in ink like 123inkjets.com offer a huge range of printer ink cartridges at much lower prices than at typical electronics or office supply stores.Even better discounts are available if you pass on original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cartridges and go for refurbished ones instead. Rumors have long floated around about the reliability of refurbished cartridges, but if you buy your ink from reputable sources, they are just as good as the originals. (In fact, this author has been using refurbished printer ink cartridges for his printer for years without complications).
All your money doesn't have to be spent on ink.The days of buying brand new ink cartridges from high-priced retailers can be forgotten.By printing conservatively, getting ink from other alternatives, and shooting for lower prices, you will be able to save both ink and money at once. And by shopping around to find the best prices on whatever products or services you decide to use, you can save even more.
