Print server is a device which consists of a computer and various printers connected over a network. The computer is in turn connected with the client's computer which provides the clients the medium to print their documents. The computer which acts as Print server then allocates the printing preference to the printer which is idle. Depending on the printer idle position and the client's urgency, the computer acts accordingly and sends the printing jobs to appropriate printers.
Print servers are very useful in organizations where people do not have time to wait for the print document. If they require a print of any particular document, they are sent over to the Print server which then allocates the job to the printer which is idle. The various printers connected to the Print servers can be assigned in such a way that every department present in the office has their own set of printers. This will prevent mix up of any print jobs by different people. Apart from the regular printing, with the hardware and software installed in the print server, you can even restrict or access grant to different computers based on their cadre.
The best advantage of using print servers in the office is that they save a lot of time, energy and money. When one of the printers is out of service, the Print servers send the printing job to another available printer without the need to stop the complete printing job. This will prevent frustrations caused to the user. The other way through which you can connect different printers present in your office to a single computer and let it act as Print servers is through wireless routing.
Wireless Print server provides you the freedom from all the tangled wires between the server computer and the printers present in your office. With wireless router installed in specific area, you can connect all the printers to the computer server and follow the same procedure to access and deny permission to different computers present in the office floor. As you would be using wireless print server, you will have to be more careful in accessing grant as you could come in contact with different wireless networks. With a secured password allocated to your complete Print server set up, you may no longer face threat of an external wireless device being added to your network.
